Tampere, Finland is one of the leading smart cities in the world, with multiple live digital transformation projects including an autonomous shuttle bus, smart street lighting as well as a new citywide Data-Driven City for Citizens program.
An early adopter of many advanced technologies, the projects are a shining example of how to embrace new technologies and how to transform technology by using assets they already have. Now, the city’s vision is to combine local datasets – on the environment, transport, healthcare, public services, and more – to develop and offer better services to its citizens and city authorities alike. This session will explore how the city of Tampere is building a private 5G network to enable the use, transfer and sharing of massive amounts of data, opening new possibilities to address these needs. As many cities around the world seek to solve similar dilemmas concerning smart solutions, this session will explore how tight collaboration – between cities, businesses, citizens, researchers, and authorities – has been key to Tampere’s success.
